IDrive Online Backup for Mac

April 26, 2008 – 11:55 am

IDrive has just launched an online backup service targeted for Mac OS X users.

IDrive for Mac is a user-friendly, secure and reliable application that performs automated online backup of your files and folders. The application safeguards your critical data in case of a system crash. The graphical interface is coupled with powerful scheduling and logging features.

Some of the key features mentioned are:

Incremental backups - only modified portions of files are backed up, thereby conserving bandwidth
Data compression during transmission that lead to quick backups
Enhanced security with 128-bit SSL encryption on data transfers
Snapshots allow you to retain changed data history over a period of time
Provision to perform interactive backups/restores or schedule backups for a future date and time
‘Automatic Power off’ option after a scheduled backup - the machine shuts down automatically once data is backed up

IDrive Online Backup for Mac is the only application that can do block level incremental transfers for both backups and restores, an efficiency enhancement unmatched by others.

What makes RemotePC different?

April 12, 2008 – 1:54 pm

There are so many remote access services. Yet, RemotePC continues to hold its own against the competition. What is it that drives people to use RemotePC? Is it its value in pricing? or is it its set of features?

As one of the Project Leads at RemotePC team, I think the reason is simple. We provide the best set of features for the money in a secure, fast and user friendly manner, especially for a small business.

Look around and try to find a remote access service that can provide access to 50 hosts reliably and securely with good performance for a price of $49.95/month? Some competing services charge as much as 10 times this, and yet, may not be as reliable.

Recently one of the small business customers switched from a competing service to RemotePC for a large 100 host plan for one simple reason: the competing service simply disabled the host application when the host computer was using high CPU. The customer mentioned that it is exactly for such reasons that he needed remote access for! to debug and find out high CPU usage on one of the servers.

Sure we don’t provide drag-n-drop or ‘play MP3′ feature that others offer, but is that what you really use your remote access for? One of the professional reviewers recently noted that remotepc file transfer uility was the fastest among the lot. We want users to get their work done using remote access fast and that it what we offer.

Here are some snippets from a April 8th 2008 PCAdvisor review.

“Once connected, opening programs and accessing files and folders on the target PC is a straightforward process. You can edit documents and save the changes either locally or on the remote PC. As with the other remote-access programs here, you have the choice of overwriting an existing file or creating a new version.

RemotePC also offers a file-transfer function. When we tried this, it took just under five minutes to transfer an 18MB file from the target PC to our local machine.

We also found it easy to print remotely from the target PC to a device connected to our local computer. ”
